Darlington 21st All Stars 1 Darlington Youth Under 13s 4

Darlington FC Youth (sponsored by Darlington Building Society, The Flintlock Inn & BTS Fabrications) played away to local rivals 21st AllStars, in the TJFA 2nd Division.

The hosts went into the game in good form, having won both their league games this season. However they were up against a Darlington side full of confidence following five straight league and cup wins themselves.

The visitors played some excellent football in the opening stages of the game, moving the ball quickly and using the wide players to great effect. With a strong back line which included Joe Hanson, Jacob Gibson, Tristan Bowden-Bloomfield and Liam Wynn, the home side attacked with confidence from the first whistle.

Corbyn Mitchell continued his fine form with another four goals to add to his impressive tally already this season. His first came after 12 minutes. Darlington captain Tom Horner, playing in his much preferred centre midfield role, found Mitchell with a well-timed pass and he ran through on goal before arrowing his shot into the far corner of the net.

The visitors continued to press high up the field, giving AllStars very little time on the ball. Thomas Hindmarch and Matty Moody were a constant threat down the channels and with some strong tackling along with quick passing from Tom Horner, Alex Mason and Jack Browning in the centre of midfield, Darlington looked solid, giving keeper Bradley Morrison a very quiet half between the posts.

Matty Moody was unlucky not extend the score, as his header at the far post went inches wide following good play from Thomas Hindmarch.

In the second half it took Darlington just four minutes to extend their lead and again it was the same two players who combined to give them a second goal. Tom Horner showed great vision to pick out Mitchell and he showed excellent composure as he rounded the AllStars keeper for his second of the game.

With a very competitive game of football beginning to unfold on a wet surface, the game began to slow down due to a number of free-kicks being awarded, as well as stoppages for substitutions.

Despite this, Darlington went further ahead in the 54th minute thanks to another Corbyn Mitchell goal (six hat-tricks in six games this season) and another Tom Horner assist (7th of the season). Horner received the ball from Alex Mason just outside the AllStars penalty area and his neat pass found Mitchell who fired in from seven yards for his 23rd goal of the season.

The visitors restricted AllStars to very few chances but on the odd occasion had keeper Bradley Morrison to thank for some brave goal-keeping and great handling. With 7 minutes still left to play, Liam Wynn helped himself to his 6th assist in as many games with an exceptional pass into the path of Mitchell and despite best efforts from the AllStars defence to muscle the Darlington forward off the ball, he stood strong before slotting past the keeper and into the net.

The home side were awarded a consolation goal with the very last kick of the game from the penalty spot.
