Darlington Football Club is appealing for information regarding an incident at the Spennymoor Town away game on Tuesday night.

After the first Darlington goal – scored by Stephen Thompson from the penalty spot after 19 minutes – a smoke bomb was thrown on to the playing surface from the open end, where our fans were standing.

This meant that the object had to be removed from the playing area before play could restart, and as a result the referee reported the incident at the time to the head steward.

After the game, our club secretary was informed by the referee that he will be including the incident in his match report, which could result in the club being heavily fined by the FA, as spectators are not allowed to bring any form of pyrotechnics into football grounds. Indeed, DFC includes a warning about pyrotechnics in its matchday programme.

DFC is proud of its community and family-based support and cannot, and will not, tolerate inappropriate behaviour or crowd disturbance of any kind, either home or away.

If any individual (s) can be clearly named and identified, the club will ban the person (s) responsible from our home matches for life.
