Quakers had to reshuffle after just 8 minutes when Adam Nowakowski went down heavily following an aerial challenge, and after several minutes’ treatment, staggered off the field.
Quakers went behind on 18 minutes when former Darlington player Greg Young headed an inswinging corner against the post, and before Quakers could recover, Ash Burbeary sidfooted home.
Quakers nearly levelled with a curling free kick from the edge of the box by Terry Galbraith, that was deflected just wide, but at the other end, Peter Jameson pulled a off a flying save from a Liam Hardy volley.
Quakers were furious that they weren’t given a penalty when David Dowson’s goalbound shot seemed to be blocked by Young’s raised arm, but the ref awarded a corner instead.
Quakers went further behind on 47 minutes when Burbeary whipped a free kick in from the right for Liam Hardy to head past Jameson.
Quakers nearly levelled when Adam Mitchell’s cross to the far post was nodded back by Phil Turnbull for Nathan Cartman, but his header hit the keeper’s trailing leg.
Barnes pulled off a more orthodox save on 73 minutes when Mitchell found Terry Galbraith with a floated free kick, and the keeper punched Galbraith’s header away.
Barnes saved another Galbraith header, then Thompson had an indirect free kick from inside the area blocked by the wall.
