Darlington Under 23s had a day to forget when they were beaten 6-0 at Consett Blackfyne on Saturday in the Wearside League.

Quakers never got going, and never really threatened the Consett defence.

Manager John Walters said: “We were outplayed, outmuscled and defensively very poor throughout the game. Credit to Consett Blackfyne, who played very well and thoroughly deserved the three points.

“I honestly did not see this performance coming. If I’m truthful, it was an embarrassing performance, and I can only apologise to the Darlo fans who travelled to watch the game.

“With young players, performances can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, but today was totally unacceptable at any level. We will work extremely hard over the next couple of weeks to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“We dust ourselves down, learn from today and come back stronger. Our next game is on 5th September, and we’ll be ready.”
