π₯ Match Preview
Darlo are looking to keep their strong form in pre-season going when they welcome National League opposition in Altrincham to Blackwell Meadows.
The Quakers come into the game after a 3-1 win over Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday night, when a Cedric Main brace and a Tom Allan goal helped guide them to another win and stay unbeaten in four pre-season matches so far.
Darlington’s opponents, Altrincham, should prove to be a tough test for The Quakers as they are a formidable force in their league.
The Robins finished just outside the play-off spots in 9th place in the National League last season and will look to push again for promotion next time around.
Altrincham have played three games so far in this pre-season, with two wins over Warrington Town and FC Isle of Man respectively, and a defeat to fellow NLN team Radcliffe.
The Robins are managed by Phil Parkinson, who has been at the club since 2017 and is the club’s longest-ever single spell serving manager. Parkinson has guided the club to promotion from the Northern Premier League all the way to the National League since joining them in April 2017.
The two teams have met multiple times previously, with the most recent being a 1-1 draw on the 24th August 2019, when a late equaliser by Adam Campbell saved the day for The Quakers.
π€ Player Spotlight
The Robins have signed two players who have featured many times against The Quakers for Boston United, those being Jimmy Knowles and Keaton Ward. Both were pivotal in helping Boston’s miraculous relegation escape and will add a direct attacking threat for Altrincham this coming season.
They have also secured the loan signing of Bolton keeper Luke Hutchinson, who spent time last season at fellow National League North side Marine.
