Darlington's FA Cup run was ended by a late penalty against Scarborough.

Quakers trailed in the second half, but a well-taken penalty by Will Hatfield looked as if they were heading for at least a reply.

But Scarborough's Lewis Maloney scored from the spot just three minutes before the end and put Quakers out.

Here are the goals and the reaction of manager Josh Gowling

Quakers had a great chance on 7 minutes. They won a free kick on the right, and the ball was swung over by Will Hatfield for Jassem Sukar, standing unmarked six yards out, to head wide.

At the other end, Kallum Griffiths got in a late challenge on Mulhern inside his own penalty area, and Jack Hannah made a neat interception.

New keeper David Robson also did well to put the ball into touch on the corner of his own box under pressure from two attackers.

Quakers had a half chance on 19 minutes when Griffiths dispossessed Purver on the corner of the Scarborough box, but put his left foot shot over the top.

Robson was in action on 22 minutes when he held on to a free kick that was whipped in from the left.

Quakers had a great chance on 31 minutes when Hatfield won the ball midway inside the Scarborough half and set up the overlapping Griffiths, whose right foot shot was saved by Cracknell.

And there was another chance when Griffiths nodded the ball down for Nelson to run into the box, and have a shot that was slightly deflected by a defender, and Cracknell saved at full stretch in his top right corner.

Salkeld then had a good run up the left which ended with the ball going out of play for a goal kick.

Scarborough took the lead on 44 minutes, when Lewis Maloney crossed from the left, and Frank Mulhern flicked the ball past Robson.

Half time 0-1

Quakers won a free kick on the left on 52 minutes. Liddle’s free kick was cleared as far as Hatfield, who fired his effort wide of the left hand post.

They nearly levelled on 53 minutes when Mustoe worked his way to the bye line and crossed deep to the far post where Griffiths headed just over.

Another good period of Darlington pressure, which saw Jacob Hazel come on for Mustoe during it, saw Griffiths head wide from a floated cross by Liddle.

And Griffiths had another header saved on 65 minutes from a good cross by Sukar.

Quakers were awarded a penalty on 75 minutes when a defender clearly handed a deep right wing cross, and Hatfield smashed the penalty into the roof of the net, his second in successive games.

A good move up the right nearly came off before Griffiths crossed for Hatfield to head wide.

Scarborough missed a good chance when Colville beat two men and set upMaloney, who blazed over.

And they missed a great chance in front of goal when Qualter headed a corner over the top.

But Scarborough were awarded a penalty on 87 minutes  for a foul by Lees, and Maloney scored from the spot.
