Young attacker ready to make an impact
Darlington are thrilled to announce the signing of Dylan Stephenson for the 2026/27 season on a one-year deal.
Here's his first interview!
Dylan, 23, is a multifaceted attacker who is comfortable anywhere across the front line. He started his career at Newcastle United in the Academy under current Darlington assistant manager Terry Mitchell, and signed a professional contract in July 2021. He had some first-team experience with the Magpies and scored against Al-Hilal in a friendly in December of 2022.
While at Newcastle, Dylan went on a six month loan to Scottish Championship side Hamilton Academicals in January 2023, and made 12 appearances and scored one goal for them. The following season, in January 2024, he joined South Shields in the National League North on loan, scoring eight goals in 18 appearances over the rest of the season.
At the end of the 2023/24 season, Dylan departed Newcastle United upon the expiration of his contract and signed for National League side Dagenham & Redbridge on a two-year deal. He made 21 appearances in his first season in the National League and scored three goals. Last season in the National League South, Dylan played 47 games, scoring seven goals.
Manager Steve Watson is delighted with the new signing, and said; "He's a really exciting signing at the top end of the pitch. He's somebody that can play as an attacking midfielder, or a wide man or as an out and out striker.
"He's a powerful runner, is a good age at 23, and has played over 100 games at our level and higher. I'm really excited that he'll give us a really good attacking option. Terry has worked with him before at the Newcastle Academy and knows what he is about."
Everyone at Darlington would like to wish Dylan all the best whilst he is with us.
