Former Quaker Player Ken Furphy Dies

Darlington defender during the 1950’s and 1960’s Ken Furphy, sadly passed away at the weekend, aged 83, at his home in Devon.

His playing career saw him spend nine years at Darlington before spells at Workington and Watford, in a career that spanned 15 years, and Ken went on he became a well known manager and coach. In his nine seasons with the Quakers, between1953-1962, Ken made 316 appearances, scoring 6 goals

Ken was part of the team that beat Chelsea in 1958 in an FA Cup replay. He marked Jimmy Greaves out of the game in the tie at Chelsea where Darlo drew 3-3. Greaves was left out of the replay!!

The Club’s condolences go to Ken’s family at this very sad time.
