Darlington F.C Women are excited to announce the signing of Freya Johnson for the 2026/27 season. 

Freya brings higher league experience having most recently played for Wallsend Women. She started her youth football playing for Bishop Auckland Girls before going through the age groups at Teesside RTC. She then joined Middlesbrough and moved into senior women’s football with Middlesbrough. After this she moved to Durham U23s and played there whilst at college. Freya then played for Newcastle University and Wallsend Women. 

Freya said after signing for the Quaker Women: “I chose to sign for Darlington after a short time away from football. I wanted a new challenge and just to start playing again closer to home after leaving University. The club has a good competitive set up and it felt like the right place to get back into football and I can’t get wait to get the season started”

Manager Shaun Mackenzie said: “We are absolutely delighted to bring Freya to the club. She has experience of playing in the higher tiers and she’s settled straight into the squad nicely.

“She is an excellent defender and is a versatile player who can play anywhere across the back line. Freya is also a good communicator on the pitch and reads the game well. She has already shown she will be a great asset to the team in pre season friendlies and I believe she will only get stronger as the season gets underway.”
