Darlington manager Martin Gray was delighted with his team’s continued level of performance after the 4-0 victory over Workington on Tuesday night.

Quakers went back on top of the table with the win as previous leaders Blyth were held at home, and Gray pointed out: “Our performance was excellent considering that the players had been in a very tough game against Stourbridge just three days before.

It was a massive performance against a team that hadn’t lost for a while, and showed the fitness levels and strength of the squad.

“That’s four games unbeaten now, and we’re happy with ten points out of the last twelve. But the players must keep it going on Saturday against Mickleover.

“We’re top of the table, which is where we want to be, but I believe that the race for promotion will go right to the wire. We will take every game as it comes.”

MG says that midfielder Leon Scott doesn’t get enough praise for his efforts after he popped up to score the fourth goal near the end on Tuesday.

“Leon doesn’t get enough credit for what he does. He’s been with me since day one back in the Northern League, and he’s been one of our most consistent performers over the last three and a half years.”
