Quakers, without six players because of injury, put the Linnets defence under early pressure, and a left wing cross was cleared as far as skipper Ben Hedley, who fired over the bar from 25 yards.

Klng’s Lynn replied with a run into the box by Nzabueze, and his left foot shot was parried by Bobby Jones.

Quakers had a good chance on 12 minutes when Lowes picked the ball up in midfield, ran at the King’s Lynn defence and laid the ball off for Ethen Fitzhugh to cut inside and hit a left foot shot that Ronnie Hollingshead blocked at his near post.

Quakers lifted the fans by winning their first corner on 21 minutes but it was headed away by a defender, and a good spell of pressure then followed without success.

A good cross by Hedley forced a defender to concede a corner on 25 minutes, and when the ball came over from Lowes, Aidan Rutledge headed wide of the far post.

After successfully absorbing a couple of King’s Lynn attacks, Hedley forced another corner on 32 minutes, and it ended with Lees setting up Hedley to have a shot blocked.

Fitzhugh, who was always a danger when he got the ball on the right, easily beat his marker on 35 minutes, but his cross was too close to the keeper.

But King’s Lynn went ahead on 42 minutes, when Walker was penalised for a foul just outside the area, and Nzabueze perfectly placed the free kick into the bottom right corner
