Former Liverpool and Brighton defender Mark Lawrenson has signed up for the Marathon Bet #NonLeague Challenge legends match – as a TV summariser!
Lawro will be on the balcony summarising alongside commentator Ian Abrahams – “Moose” -- from Talksport for the big Legends game on Sunday 29th July – and from the growing list of Legends who have committed to the big match, then he’ll have plenty to talk about!
He started his playing career at Preston North End in 1974, then moved to Brighton for £100,000 in 1977. He played there for four seasons, making 152 appearances, before moving to Liverpool in 1981 for £900,000.
While at Anfield, he won the European Cup once, the League five times, the League Cup three times, and the FA Cup once. He made 332 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 18 goals. He scored the fifth goal in the game when Ian Rush scored four against Everton.
He also picked up 39 Republic of Ireland international caps.
After retiring from playing, he has forged a very successful career in the media. He regularly appears on Match of the Day, and earlier in the summer worked for the BBC at the World Cup in Russia.
