Darlington manager Martin Gray says that Terry Galbraith and Leon Scott were both “big men” in the 1-1 draw with Stourbridge on Saturday.

MG had to quickly rethink his plans ten minutes before the game when skipper Kev Burgess strained his calf in the warm up, and he had to quickly switch players around. It was planned that Leon Scott would start in midfield, but he was pushed to left back instead, and home debutant Anthony Callaghan switched to centre half alongside Galbraith.

In the second half, Scott and Galbraith were paired together and with the rest of the side, particularly keeper Peter Jameson, Quakers battled through for a precious point in a 1-1 draw.

“When Kev pulled up in the warm up, that meant we had three centre halves missing, and that lads who stepped in were put in an unreal position, but produced a massive performance.

“Leon and Terry were two big men, and they really stepped up against two very good forwards.

“They demonstrated the character and endeavour that exists within the changing room. Everyone was getting tackles and blocks in, and getting back behind the ball. Leon’s block in the first half was magnificent.

“I thought the point we got was a good point, because Stourbridge are the best team we’ve played this season. They have two very good front players and two very good wide players, and they came into the game in very good form.”

Chris Hunter returns to the side on Tuesday night against Workington, but there is an injury doubt over skipper Burgess.
