In a new series, we asked fans for their memories of 2015-16. Steve Hume tells us his.

You and Us. Bonded in celebration on the pitch at Whitby.  Bonded in Achievement.  Bonded in Belief. Bonded in working hard. Bonded in having the same lives as us.

So how did we get here?

Step 1 - Josh Hine is clean through on goal, Gary is trailing in his wake. All he has to do is to chip Pete and we will be 4-1 down to Salford. We look helplessly on, nothing we can do. Hine makes a mess of his chip and I raise half an eyebrow. Turning point? Possibly. We’ve seen this sort of thing before. Yeah, but really?

Seconds later, thirty-four in fact, Tommo through to Gas, chips keeper, rolls slowly into the net. This is back on.

Gas twirls, feeds Leon, through to Carts, falls over (twice!), Army spins, crosses. Gas! 3-3!

Last minute, Phil free-kick. Tez header, Carts’ predatory finish. 4-3. Absolute joy, bedlam, pitch invasion, everything!

Step 2 - Salford City manager Anthony Johnson is being interviewed after his team’s last minute defeat at Heritage Park. “They’ve shown a great team spirit, their heads don’t go down, they’re very brave”.  “They dropped it last season with the games in hand, I don’t think they’ll do it this season. They seem to have a lot more mettle about them, a lot more resolve”.

Great words from a rival but 15 games in 6 and a half weeks? Blyth sitting pretty.

Step 3 – The Magic Minute at Grantham. News from Blyth, they’ve lost. Massive roar from the Darlo fans but we’ve only got a 1.0 lead. Cue Army to Liam 2.0, great celebrations.

So a final message to the players, don’t forget that for us, it’s not just about match day, it’s about the buzz you give us throughout the week, thinking about Kev’s bravery and bandaged head when we are in the supermarket, Army’s soaring header while on the bus to work, Tom’s lung bursting runs from midfield when we are washing the car.

Have I ever been prouder of a Darlo team in my 42 years of supporting this club? No.
