National North Round-Up 12/11/2018

The latest action from our division

We were not in action this weekend, but six games still took place in the National North.

Bradford Park Avenue moved to the top of the table, but were held to a draw at Curzon Ashton. Jake Beesley gave Bradford the lead, but Oliver Crankshaw earned a 1-1 draw for Curzon just four minutes later.

Kidderminster Harriers could have also ended the day top, but failed to win at bottom of the table Nuneaton Borough. James O’Connor put Harriers ahead, but Rhys Davies grabbed a point for Nuneaton 13 minutes from time.

Like Bradford and Kidderminster, Chester could have finished the day top of the pile, but suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Altrincham. Jordan Hulme gave Alty an early lead with Simon Grand levelling for the hosts shortly after half-time. However, Hulme grabbed his second in the 64th minute which proved to be the winner.

Telford moved up to 6th after a 1-0 win over Boston United. Shane Sutton scored the only goal of the game for Telford mid-way through the first half.

Brackley slipped to seventh, after being held at home by Blyth Spartans. Sean Reid put Spartans ahead in the second half, with Matthew Lowe scoring seven minutes from time to make it 1-1.

FC United of Manchester continued their good form as they moved out of the bottom three with victory at Hereford, whom themselves dropped to 20th place.  Thomas Peers, Lewis Thompson, Kurt Willoughby all scored for FC United in a five minute spell to put them in control. James Roberts pulled one back for Hereford in the final ten minutes, but it could not stop them falling to a 3-1 defeat.

In the FA Cup two of the three sides from our division still in the competition progressed after beating sides from higher divisions. Southport beat National Premier side Boreham Wood 2-0, whilst Stockport won 3-1 at Yeovil.

The other side still in the cup were York City, but they went down to a 2-1 defeat at Swindon.
