Redcar Town 2 Darlington 4

Goals: Stephenson 18 mins 0-1, Luck 29 mins 1-1, Gray 48 mins 2-1, Lees 63 mins 2-2, Hedley 72 mins 2-3, Beck 76 mins 2-4

Quakers survived a scare on a blustery day at Mo Mowlam Park to go through to Monday's third qualifying round draw.

They were 2-1 down playing against a stiff breeze on a bumpy pitch when they scored three goals in the space of 13 minutes and turned the game on its head.

Quakers kicking with the breeze in the first half, had the first half chance inside the first minute, a right foot shot on the turn by Ellis Stanton that went wide of the left hand post, then Ethan Fitzhugh cut in from the right, ran forward, and curled a left foot shot just over the bar.

After a patient build up, Paddy McLaughlin then ran 40 yards into the box, but couldn’t get a shot away.

Quakers took the lead on 18 minutes. Ethan Fitzhugh dribbled into the box on the right and pulled the ball back for Dylan Stephenson to turn in at the near post.

They nearly got a second two minutes later, when Ben Hedley crossed from the right, and Mark Beck and Sam Hetherington just failed to get a touch at the far post.

Redcar levelled from a corner on 29 minutes. The ball came in from the left, was flicked on, and Callum Luck volleyed in at the far post for the equaliser.

Darlington had a great chance on 32 minutes, when the Redcar defence misjudged the bounce of the ball, and Hetherington set up Fitzhugh, who sidefooted wide.

Then a patient build up ended with Ellis Stanton firing over the top, and just on half time, Beck headed Stanton’s inswinging corner wide

Half time 1-1

Quakers made a sub at half time, Ciaran Thompson coming on for Logan Pye.

Redcar went 2-1 up at the start of the second half, a long throw came in from the right, and as Quakers failed to clear, Jayden Gray fired in at the far post.

Quakers tried to reply, and Fitzhugh cut in from the right, and the keeper , Will Cowey, smothered his shot.

Then Beck held the ball up well and set up Fitzhugh, who brought a flying save out of Cowey.

In Quakers’ next attack, Cowey pushed Beck’s bicycle kick wide, and then Fitzhugh’s shot was blocked.

They levelled on 64 minutes, when Toby Lees thundered a header home from a left wing corner from Hetherington.

Quakers made a sub on 66 minutes when Dylan Wilkinson came on for Lees, who seemed to take a knock when he scored.

And they nearly went 3-2 up when Fitzhugh played the ball into the box for Stephenson to have a close range shot well saved by Cowey

The breakthrough came on 72 minutes. Fitzhugh and Stephenson combined well and set up Hedley on the edge of the area, and he curled a right foot shot into the top corner.

And it was 4-2 on 76 minutes, when Hedley crossed from the left for Mark Beck to head into the bottom corner.

By now, Quakers were in control, and they nearly got a fifth when Beck set up Fitzhugh, but he pulled his effort wide
