Haze fires Quakers to victory

Quakers end with a win and finish a point outside the play offs

Peterborough Sports 0 Darlington 1

Hazel 67 mins, 0-1

Attendance 317

Jacob Hazel's 21st goal of the season gave Quakers victory at Latimer Park, their first win in ten matches.

The victory means that Quakers agonisingly miss out on the play offs by a single point, finishing in tenth place, a point behind Spennymoor, Scarborough and Gloucester, the latter clinching the last play off spot.

Quakers always needed several results to go in their favour, but in the end, their fate was out of their own hands.

Quakers won a free kick 35 yards out, which Liddle hoisted into the box and a defender headed out for a corner.

Liddle swung the corner in from the right, but Lawlor was pulled up for a foul on keeper Crook.

Sports won a corner on 6 minutes , but the defence headed the ball away.

Quakers got a free kick for handball on the left on 10 minutes, Lambert floated the ball over to the far post where Hazel volleyed left footed over the bar.

The home side went close on 12 minutes when Mark Jones was set up inside the area, and his low shot beat Tommy Taylor but Kallum Griffiths cleared off the line.

Quakers nearly took the lead on 16 minutes, when Kaine Felix crossed from the right into the middle, where Ben Liddle volleyed just wide of the left hand post.

And there was another chance a minute later when Hazel found Felix on the right, and he cut in and struck a left foot shot that Sports keeper Peter Crook saved low down.

PS replied with a good volley by Jarvis which Taylor pushed over the bar.

After a quiet period, the game burst back into life when Lambert, who scored here last season, struck a half volley that dipped just wide of the right hand post.

Quakers had another chance when Liddle crossed from the left for Felix to have a shot blocked.

PS had a chance just before the break when Jordon Crawford got into the box on the right and fired across the face of goal, then in their next attack, Josh McCammon glanced a left wing cross just wide.

Half time 0-0

Quakers got a free kick on the right on 49 minutes , which was whipped in by Lambert, but Crook held on under pressure from Lawlor.

Quakers were forced to make a change on 51 minutes when Liddle limped off and was replaced by Newall.

When Hazel was fouled just outside the area on on 61 minutes, Lambert’s free kick went over the bar.

And when Lambert was fouled again outside the box on 65 minutes, Hazel’s free kick was blocked by the wall.

Quakers took the lead on 67 minutes. The ball was knocked forward to Hazel, who brought the ball down well on the edge of the box, swivelled, and fired a left foot shot beyond Crook for his 21st goal of the season.

PS tried to hit back, and Mark Jones blazed a shot wide after they got into the Darlington box.

After that, there was plenty of effort from both sides, but nothing much in the way of chnaces.

Quakers made their second sub on 89 minutes when Lambert went off and was replaced by Nelson.
