Craig Stoddart talks about a picture from the club's past -- today it's Alan Walsh.
Alan Walsh, the club's joint record scorer, is pictured firing in a shot while under pressure from defender Terry Brisley during a 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth on March 15, 1980.
Walsh scored a penalty in this match, his 16th goal of the season and it proved to be his last of the campaign, two ahead of John Stalker who ended on 14 as the team endured a year in the doldrums.
Quakers finished third bottom of Division Four, this 1-1 draw coming during a period of one win in 13 matches, while Portsmouth were promoted in fourth place.
During this season midfielder Brisley was named in the Fourth Division PFA Team of the Year. Before joining Portsmouth, he had played for Orient, Millwall and Charlton.
Darlington: Barry, Nattress, Cochrane, Ball, Craig, Smith, Hawker, Charlton, Stalker, Walsh.
Attendance: 2,287
Alan will be featured in our 80s week which starts on the 27th June!
