The Keeper joins Darlo for the 26/27 season
Darlington are excited to announce the signing of Bobby Jones for the 2026/27 season on a one year deal, subject to FA and National League approval.
Bobby, 24, joins the club from Chester, where he made 19 appearances, including in the play off eliminator against Macclesfield. The goalkeeper has spent time with several clubs at this level, including Curzon Ashton, AFC Fylde and Spennymoor Town.
Here is he talking to Stuart Armstrong about the move:
The former Republic of Ireland Under 18 international started his career in the Middlesbrough Academy before joining Wigan Athletic. While at Wigan, he spent time on loan at Farsley Celtic before moving permanently to AFC Fylde in 2021.
After a season with The Coasters, Jones joined Stockport County. He would later spend time on loan at Brackley Town and Marine before joining Curzon Ashton, where he enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign, making 45 appearances and keeping 20 clean sheets for the Nash as they finished 8th in the National League North, narrowly missing out on the play offs on goal difference.
Following his impressive season at Curzon Ashton, Bobby signed for National League side Boston United. He made three competitive appearances before spending time on loan at Spennymoor Town during the first half of the 2025/26 season. He then moved to Chester for the second half of the campaign, later joining them permanently until the end of the season in February.
Assistant Manager Terry Mitchell said:
“I’m delighted to welcome Bobby to the club.
Speaking to Bobby was a breath of fresh air. From the first conversation, it was clear how much he wanted to come here, play for his hometown club and represent Darlington, which was brilliant to hear.
Bobby has been on our radar for the past couple of seasons, so we’re really pleased to secure him, especially as he had other opportunities that he turned down to join us as well.
We’re getting a top quality goalkeeper who has been a key part of sides finishing 7th and 8th in the National League North over the last two seasons. He’s a great shot stopper, strong aerially and has a huge presence.
We’re really looking forward to working with him.”
The club is thrilled to have Bobby with us for the 2026/27 campaign and can’t wait to see him in action for the Quakers.
