Silksworth 2 Darlington Reserves 1

The reserves finished the season with a 2-1 away defeat at Silksworth on Wednesday night.

The lads went 2-0 down against two early goals, but fought back by half time and nearly snatched victory in the second half. The Darlo team included nine players under the age of 18

Joint manager Mark Fanning said; “We were 2-0 down in 15 minutes. We were against the slope and the sun was in the eyes of our defenders, but we battled hard to get back into the game and Jamie O’Brien pulled a goal back before half time.

“The game was more even in the second half, but we didn’t have enough clear cut chances. We worked hard to get back into the game, but maybe Silksworth deserved to win the game overall.”

Quakers are currently 10th in the table, but could drop to 11th if they are overtaken by Gateshead Leam Rangers.

“Considering everything that’s gone on in the season, we’ve had to rebuild the side twice, so we’re happy with our finishing position. We’ve played a lot of good football this season with a young side, and we’ve earned respect from a lot of opposing sides.”
