Skipper Gary Brown Available For Transfer
Darlington have tonight placed Gary Brown on the transfer list.Gary has been skipper at the club sin...
Gary has been skipper at the club since his arrival in 2012 and has led the club promotion twice - the latest coming at the end of last season in the Evo-Stik Division One North play-off final.
His two promotions make his one of the most successful captains in the club's history and he has become a huge favourite of supporters.
This week Gary's partner Aimee gave birth to their second child. Before the friendly at Gateshead tonight the Quakers' skipper made the difficult decision to leave the club. With Darlington set to cover more miles on the road this coming season the defender feels he can't commit 100% anymore and decided to depart.
Speaking about the captain's decision manager Martin Gray said:
"Its sad news for us obviously. He and his partner have had their second child this week which is wonderful news. However Gary doesn't feel he can commit to the travelling. Its a very understandable decision. He will be missed very much by everyone at the club. He has been a magnificant servant for us," said Gray.
"He has been an outstanding captain and won two promotions in his three years with us. He came in and has given us everything. I couldn't ask for any more from him. He has been outstanding on and off the pitch."
"I respect his decision and how quickly it has been made. It gives me time to bring someone else in. I am sure there will be plenty of takers for him with everything he has achieved. He is one of the best defenders we've worked with at this level of football. There will be loads of interest in him, there is no doubt about that."
