The club would like to thank Ian Roberts for raising over £3000 with his Sponsor a Goal scheme.

Last season’s title winning season was Ian’s fourth, and his best yet in terms of money raised for the club – a terrific £3,309!

Ian received loads of pledges for the usual pledges for the number of goals Darlo scored, but he says that he received some unusual pledges.

“Sponsor a goal isn’t just about Darlington goals, it’s about anything you like,” said Ian. “Some pledges are quite quirky. For example, someone pledged a tenner if Kevin Luff could get to the Ilkeston away game in time for kick off, then when we got back to 3-3 at Salford, somebody pledged that if Nathan Cartman scored the winner, he would give £50. When Nathan scored, he happily paid up, and somebody else matched it!”

When Ian first had the idea in 2012, he raised just over £1,200, so in four years, he has raised a five figure sum for the club, for which we’re very grateful.

Ian will be running Sponsor a Goal again for season 2016-17, watch out for details of how to join near the start of the season.

Many thanks, Ian!
