Former player passes away
The club is sad to learn about the death of one of our former players, Tony Lee at the age of 75.
Tony, a forward, signed for us from Stockton in season 1968-69, and made 14 appearances for us , scoring once, which was the winning goal against Port Vale on 1st February 1969. He left the club for South Shields later in the season.
After he finished his playing career, Tony became one of the most successful managers in north east non league football with Whitby, Billingham Synthonia, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor and Gateshead. He won the Northern League title, Northern League Cup and Durham Challenge Cup, as well reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup on several occasions as well as the FA Trophy quarter finals.
He famously returned to Feethams with Billingham Synthonia as their manager in the FA Trophy in 1989-90, and held us to a draw before losing the replay.
Our sincere condolences go to Sue, Graeme and Anth and the rest of his family and friends.
