Quakers were knocked out of the League Cup at South Moor, therefore ending their eight game winning run.

The opening scenes were evenly contested, both teams creating chances, but failing to finish them, Darlington with the better of the chances but a very poor and uneven pitch wasn't helping the away side in front of goal.

Eventually South Moor managed to score the first goal of the game after 26 minutes. Darlington however, reacted well and continued to create chances but still couldn't finish, until a Lee Hume free kick found Brad Kilpatrick, who scored Darlington's first. Darlington also had the ball over the line from a deflected cross that looked to have hit the net and come back out into play but the referee waved play on , and a very good penalty claim via a handball was also ignored . The second half started similarly to the first, both sides creating chances yet failing to put them away. South Moor yet again scored the first of the half , although the scorer looked a few yards offside , this was quickly followed by another, making the score 3-1. Despite making many chances, Darlington could only pull one goal back, through Dale Milburn after 80 minutes ending the game 3-2. Overall a good game between two very good sides, with Quakers on the wrong end of some decisions.

Darlington's 8 game winning streak came to an end , but still a good performance throughout the side.
