Under 23s celebrate promotion with 9-1 win

Great victory at Wolviston

The Under 23s finished their first season together in great style when they emphatically won 9-1 at Wolviston on Saturday.

The result means that they have finished their season with 70 points from their 28 league games which puts them top at the moment, but second placed Middlestone Moor are three points behind with five games to play.

Nevertheless, the Wearside League have confirmed that they will be promoted to the Wearside League First Division next season – a great achievement at the first time of asking.

Jack Mortimer scored four to give him 46 league goals for the season, with defender Owen Harvey also chipping in with a hat trick and Alfie Robinson and Sam Booth getting the others.

Manager Grant Cuthbertson said: “It was a great way to finish the season -- a very pleasing performance. We put Wolviston under pressure throughout the game, and we played some very good football. Jack was his usual clinical self, while I was especially delighted for Owen, who has done very well in defence this season.

“We will enjoy the promotion feeling and we will look forward to a new challenge next season.”

Quakers led 3-0 at half time, then in the second half Mortimer scored four, with Harvey popping up in the last minute to complete his hat trick.

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate the under 23s on winning promotion!
