Great win in the Clem Smith Bowl

Darlington FC U23s 7–1 FC Hartlepool Reserves

The Darlington FC U23s got their season off to a fantastic start with a convincing 7–1 victory over FC Hartlepool Reserves in the Clem Smith Bowl.

On a hot day, the U23s made a slow start, with the first water break coming at an important time. After a few words from the gaffer, the lads came back out with a completely different attitude and blitzed Pools away, producing a much-improved performance in the rest of the first half and dominated the second half.

The goals were shared around, with Jack Mortimer  Stevie Dawson , Cal Thomson , Corbyn Mitchell and Luke Leafe  all getting on the scoresheet.

Manager John Walters said; “It’s a good way to start the season with a win and lots of different goalscorers. I know we can play better, but there are some very encouraging signs from this young group of players.

“I was disappointed to concede a sloppy goal, but overall I’m very pleased with the performance and the result.

“There’s still a lot for us to work on, but it’s a great platform to build from.”
