Quakers haven’t beaten Seaham Red Star in three attempts this season, but they are hoping to finally break their duck.

Youth team manager Mark Fanning said; “The cup final against Seaham is a repeat of last year’s final which Seaham won 3-0.

“This season we have played them three times, twice in the league and once in the FA Youth Cup. The cup game was the first encounter this season, at Seaham, which Seaham won 2-1. The league game at their place was a much closer game but yet again we lost this time 1-0. The home game in the league saw us take the lead from the penalty spot but Seaham levelled in the last 10 minutes.

“Our performances have improved in each game against them and if we can continue that again on Wednesday night we will have a great chance. There is no doubt over the season they have proven to be the consistently best side in the league, finishing as champions and winning the County Cup. Seaham also provide the majority of the County side so it's fair to say we will be going into the game as underdogs. We are used to the underdogs tag having played Stockton Town in the semi final – they had beaten us twice in the league – plus Gateshead in the FA Youth Cup and Whitby Town in the Doodson Trophy.

“Our squad is a young one as only seven players qualify as Under 18s and one of those, Tom Young is missing due to injury, the remainder are Under 17s and two are Under 16. They have improved as a group throughout the season and the evidence of this was proven when many of them played for the first team against New Mills at the end of the season.

“Wednesday night we are expecting another tight game with Seaham, but if we play to our full potential, take our chances and keep our discipline, then we could win our first trophy at Under 18 level since being reformed in 2012.”

The match kicks off at 7pm at the Hetton Centre, Hetton-le-Hole. There is some parking at the centre itself, while there is street parking nearby.
