Some memories of the 80s

As part of our 80s celebrations, we're asking fans to give us their memories of the 80s.

Today, Karl Alexander tells us his:

I started going properly in the 80s to watch them from Colchester. Loads of southern grounds. Went to the Boro cup games and hid in a locker at Darlo station as I was so scared waiting for the milk train after our victory. Dave McLean was my favourite player.

I went to college in Hampshire in 1985 but went to as many games as possible. Went to York when we lost 7 nil...stayed in York and was reading my programme on the way to a paper shop the next morning when a bird pooed on it! Threw it away...took me 20 years to get another!

Went to Reading in 85 when we had won all 13 league games. We won 2 nil with 2 own goals. Reading fans bought us drinks all night afterwards.

In 1987 I thought David Currie was God! Went to Wolves and every time Steve Bull got the ball he scored...we lost 5-3! Went to Leyton Orient when we lost 4-3...we were 3-2 up with two minutes to go. I had to go with my dad and had to wear a tie.

Relegation in 1989 was hard to take. Drove up for the Colchester United game with three Colchester fans. Got introduced to the Scottish Colchester supporters in the post office club in Darlo. Went to Cambridge the game after and Scunthorpe, which was the first time I ever cried at football.
