Academy beaten at City of Liverpool

In front at one point

The Academy lads got off to a good start but were beaten 5-2 at City of Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday.

They led 1-0 for most of the first half thanks to an own goal, but conceded the equaliser just before half time.

Liverpool scored twice early in the second, and after Harry Stansfield pulled a goal back, missed a chance for the equaliser at 3-3.

Liverpool recovered and scored twice in the closing minutes.
Head of Academy Paul Thomas said; “I thought we played some good football in the first half, but we were slow out of the traps in the second half and they took advantage. I put some of our first years on later in the game, and we fell to the sucker punch.

"They were a good side -- they pick lads up who haven't made it at either Everton or Liverpool."

The Academy’s next game is at home to Hartlepool on 30th October at Wolviston, but some of the lads may be on duty for the Durham Challenge Cup match against Whickham a week earlier.
