The Newton Aycliffe branch of the Darlington Supporters Group had another successful meeting on Wednesday night.

Interest in the new club is certainly increasing, according the group founder, Alan Bennett. Neil Raper from the Supporters Group and Rob Duncan from the Fundraising Group were also in attendance to help kick ideas about.

“The general consensus was that we need to walk before we can run,” Alan said. “We had a lot of ideas about how to raise awareness and funds for the club but we came back to the issue of the reason this group got together was to be a social event for Aycliffe based Darlo fans. We get together and we share our stories and memories about the club and the games we're looking forward to next season. There's a good mix of people with the same shared passion. We would like to get a feel as to how many people would use a coach to the ground from Aycliffe and surrounding areas so we can look at all available options.

“One of the things we did discuss was how we can engage younger fans. Though no new ideas were suggested it was noted that other teams have said how young some of our fans are. These are the ones we need to keep and get involved. We did have two teenage girls at the meeting tonight.

“Our next meeting is June 17th at 7pm in the Iron Horse. All are welcome but anyone who can't get to meetings or who doesn't like to go to meetings can email us at dfcaycliffefans@outlook.com."
