Former player passes away
The club is very sad to learn about the passing of our former player Bobby Baxter.
Bobby had two spells with Quakers. He joined us in December 1959 from Scottish club Bo'ness, and scored five goals in his first four matches, against Notts County, Barrow and Hartlepool (twice). Even though he only played half a season for us, he was top scorer at the end of the season with 14 goals in 24 matches.
The following season when Quakers finished seventh, he scored 18 times in the league, and another two in the long-running FA Cup tie against Hull City, when there were four replays. He was also in the team that beat Crystal Palace and West Ham in the 1960 Football League Cup, before we lost to Bolton in front of our biggest ever crowd of 21,023.
He left for Brighton and Hove Albion in 1961, and played for them as a left back or left half for 220 matches, and helped them win promotion to the old Third Division in season 1964-65.
After leaving Brighton, he played for Torquay for two seasons, before he returned to us for a second spell in 1969 as a full back, and he played another 42 matches for us, bringing his total to 121 games scoring 33 times. He left in the summer of 1970 for non league football.
We would like to pass on our condolences to Bobby's family and friends.
