Quakers paid the penalty for missed chances when they were beaten at Silverlands.

They created some good chances, but conceded a goal in each half. They launched a late revival thanks to a goal by Jassem Sukar, who then missed a chance for an equaliser and there was controversy when the referee turned down penalty appeals in the last minute.

On a 4G surface that was watered before kick off, Quakers won a free kick on the right midway inside the Buxton half, for a foul on Dodds, but Leesley’s free kick was too high for everyone in the box.

They gained another free kick when Lambert was fouled by Granite, and this time Hedley got into the box and won a corner. The ball went over to the far post, and Beck’s header down was cleared by a defender.

Buxton took the lead after 11 minutes. A free kick from the left was knocked over the top by Sean Newton for Diego De Girolamo to lift to the far post, where Shaun Brisley headed home.

Kaine Felix nearly levelled on 19 minutes. He got on the end of a Mark Beck flick, and after having one shot blocked, he struck a left foot effort that went just wide of the right hand post.

They had a better chance two minutes later when Adriano Moke perfectly weighted a through ball for Jack Lambert to run into the box with just Richardson to beat, but the keeper blocked with his legs.

Hedley crossed from the left into the middle towards Beck and Felix, and even though the ball missed them, it went just past the far post.

Another cross by Hedley from the left found Beck and he nodded the ball on towards Felix, but a defender just managed to get a tackle in.

Felix was busy down the right, and he combined well with Dodds, who ran to the bye line and crossed to the far post, but too high for Leesley.

Quakers continued the pressure, which ended with a flick by Beck for Felix to mishit a shot wide, then Lambert ran into the area but his low cross was cleared on the six yard line.

 Half time 1-0

Quakers kept pushing forward in the second half, and there was a good forward run by Moke, who played the ball back to Hedley who struck a low shot that Richardson held on his line.

Quakers were nearly caught on the counter attack with a run by former Darlington midfielder Tom Elliott, who got to the edge of the box where his shot was blocked by Jake Lawlor.

They had another chance when Lambert made a good run up the left and laid the ball back for Leesley, whose low shot was saved again by Richardson.

Lambert’s persistence almost paid off when a quick change of pace took him into the box, and Richardson tipped his shot over the bar.

Jacob Hazel then came on for Alex Purver, and his first involvement was a left foot shot on the turn that Richardson saved.

But it was 2-0 on 67 minutes. A throw in was given Buxton’s way when Quakers claimed it should have been theirs, and the ball was played up the left for Newton to get to the bye line and pull back for Scott Boden to turn in from a couple of yards.

Quakers sent on Ben Liddle for Moke, and they nearly pulled a goal back with a header by Beck from a Sukar cross, but the ball dropped wide.

Quakers pulled one back on 86 minutes, when Sukar picked the ball up 30 yards and hit a powerful left foot shot into the top left corner of the net, his first goal for the club.

Quakers looked for the equaliser, and Leesley’s cross almost reached Beck, but a defender headed out for a corner, then a long range shot by Hedley was held by Richardson.

And they nearly got it when Leesley’s free kick was nodded down by Beck for Sukar to sidefoot agonisingly wide.

Then in stoppage time, Beck seemed to be barged to the ground as he went for a left wing cross, but the referee waved away Darlington's appeals.
