Crucial away win for Under 23s

Strengthens top two place
Our Under 23s had a good 4-1 away win at Coundon Cons to strengthen their chances of finishing in a top two position in the Wearside League Second Division at the end of the season.
Goals from Jack Mortimer (2), Matthiew Kirokiro and Ethan Cuthbertson gave them a crucial victory to put them nine points clear at the top of the table, with Middlestone Moor in second place with five games in hand. West End Reserves are third, fourteen points behind on the same games and Coundon Cons fourth, 16 points behind with two games in hand.

Manager Grant Cuthbertson said; “It was a really pleasing win against a very good and physical Coundon Cons to round off 2024.”
The game started with both teams playing some really good football and cancelling each other out.
Darlington started to impose their dominance on the game and Ethan Cuthbertson was quickest to react to a shot that the keeper couldn’t hold onto and slotted home to make it 1-0 at half time.
The second half started as the first finished with Darlo having most of the ball and a speculative shot from Kirokiro made it 2-0 in the 48th minute. Play from both teams got a bit sloppy and a mistake in our midfield allowed Coundon to capitalise and make it 2-1.
But Quakers didn’t let the goal affect them, and they regained dominance of the game. The lads certainly found their momentum again and held their shape and discipline which saw Jack Mortimer score twice and ensure Darlington got the win.
