Curzon Ashton incident: Club decision

Punishment for entering the field of play

Incident at Curzon Ashton on Bank Holiday Monday

The board of Darlington FC announces that one individual has admitted entering the field of play during the match against Curzon Ashton on Monday 30 August 2021. The individual concerned fully accepted that he was wrong to have run onto the pitch, and has apologised to the club for his actions. In light of his admission and apology, the board did not apply its policy of a one year ban, and instead has excluded the individual until mid-January 2022.

During the course of the investigation, it became clear that the allegation based on information submitted to the club that the individual concerned had kicked out at an opposing player was not correct, and the Board is happy to issue this clarification. Nevertheless, the individual acknowledges that he should not have been on the pitch in the first place.

Entering the field of play is a serious breach of football rules, and the Board will not hesitate to take appropriate and immediate action.
