Darlington made it four wins in a row with victory over bottom of the table Ramsbottom thanks to goals from Nathan Cartman and Alan White.

Cartman headed the Quakers into the lead just before the hour mark.

Substitute White then doubled the lead to score his fourth of the campaign with a fantastic volley.

Ramsbottom pulled a goal back during injury-time at the end of the game through Lee Gaskell.

Martin Gray made two changes to the team that won at Halesowen Town 3-0 on Saturday. Adam Mitchell started at right-back ahead of the injured Lewis Gibbons. Tom Portas also came into the team replacing Leon Scott.

Darlington started very brightly in the first 15 minutes and good work from Anthony Bell forced the away goalkeeper into a save at his near post.

Two penalty shouts came and went for the Quakers, with the home crowd particularly incensed at a push on Graeme Armstrong.

At the other end Ramsbottom had a penalty appeal of their own, as well as having a goal disallowed for off-side.

The best chance of the half came late on in the first period to Stephen Thompson. Brilliant work from the winger saw him burst past two defenders to get clear on goal, but he was foiled by the goalkeeper.

Half-time saw the introduction of new signing Ryan Brobbel and he played a crucial role in the opening goal. The midfielder lofted an inswinging cross into the box for Nathan Cartman to glance into the corner of the net.

White had come on for Armstrong just before the first goal and once again the emergency striker got on the scoresheet. A great move saw Mitchell and Cartman involved, before Thompson chipped the ball to the back post for White to spectacularly volley home.

Darlington were now completely on top with Thompson twice nearly adding to the total with strikes from outside the box.

Captain Burgess  also nearly scored, with an effort similar to that of White’s goal.

However, it would be a nervy final couple of minutes as Ramsbottom pulled a goal back against the run of play. A low ball was whipped across the face of the goal and Gaskell came in round the back to tap home.

The Quakers though held on for another vital three points. Darlington remain second in the league table, one point behind Blyth Spartans after they won 1-0 away to Salford City.

Next up is a home game against Hyde United on Saturday in the FA Cup.
