Good win for Quakers against Altrincham
By Ray Simpson

Fifth straight friendly win
Darlington 3 Altrincham 1
Quakers enjoyed their best victory yet in their pre season build up when they beat National League club Altrincham 3-1 at Blackwell Meadows.
Quakers started the game with plenty of promise, and took the lead on 10 minutes when Will Hatfield dispossessed an Altrincham defender just inside the visitors' penalty area, and stroked the ball into the bottom corner past the keeper.
Josh Scott and Jack Maskell were both denied, while Ben Hedley made a great run and had an effort well turned over by the keeper before half time.
In the second half, Quakers were pushed back more, and Pete Jameson made three good close range saves, before he was finally beaten by James Gale on 69 minutes.
However, Quakers responded well, and Cedric Main burst into the area, sidestepped a defender, and smashed the ball past the keeper into the roof of the net.
Will McGowan nearly added the third when he spotted the keeper off his line and tried to chip him from 30 yards, but the keeper just managed to get his footing right and hold on to the ball.
Elliot Forbes scored the third in the last minute, when he headed home an inswinging corner from the right by McGowan
Quakers have two more friendlies left, at Dunston on Tuesday and at home to Gateshead on Saturday.
