Unlucky Quakers still looking for first home win
Darlington 1 Hebburn 1
Beck 32 mins 1-0, Murray 73 mins 1-1
Attendance 1801 (282 from Hebburn)
Darlington are still without a home win this season after drawing with Hebburn at Blackwell Meadows, but it wasn't for the want of trying.
Quakers posed quite a threat in the first half with Jacob Hazel and Mark Beck together up front, and they carved out several chances to lead 1-0 at half time.
But Hebburn improved against the breeze in the second half and equalised.
However, three good saves by Hebburn keeper Dan Cameron denied Quakers right at the end.
Quakers lined up with a 4-4-2 formation with new signing Jacob Hazel and Mark Beck together up front for them.
Neither side created much early on, Robbie Briggs curled a free kick into the box for Hebburn which Bobby Jones held on to, and at the other end Ben Hedley crossed deep from the right for Ethan Fitzhugh to head wide.
Hebburn had a chance on 13 minutes when a right wing cross was only cleared as far as Tom Allan, but Ellis Stanton blocked his shot.
Quakers replied with a nod down by Jacob Hazel for Stanton, who was crowded out on the six yard line.
Hebburn missed a great chance on 22 minutes when the Darlo defence misjudged the bounce of a through ball on the wind, and with Jones coming off his line, Jake Charles lobbed the ball wide.
Quakers won a free kick out on the left on 27 minutes for a foul on Fitzhugh, but Stanton’s whipped free kick ended up in the side netting.
Quakers first real chance came on 30 minutes. Beck found Fitzhugh on the left, and the winger crossed for Hazel to head straight at Dan Cameron.
Quakers took the lead on 32 minutes. They won a free kick on the right for a foul on Jonah Lowes, and Paddy McLaughlin curled the ball in for Mark Beck to head past the keeper.
Beck had another heading chance on 36 minutes from a long throw by Hedley, but Cameron held on to the ball at the near post.
There was nearly a second when the Hebburn defence hesitated over a through ball from Lowes, and Stanton’s first time shot went just wide of the left hand post
Half time 1-0
Quakers made a sub at half time Sam Hetherington coming on for Jonah Lowes, who had suffered an arm injury near the end of the first half.
Hebburn created the first chance of the half, a cross from the right by Matty Cornish which Charles headed over.
And they had another chance when the Darlo defence could only partially clear a right wing cross, and Elliott Forbes fired over.
Hebburn were putting the pressure on now, and they won another corner on the left that Jones couldn’t hold, but the referee blew for a foul.
However, Quakers broke out, and with the breeze behind him, Fitzhugh put a left foot shot wide from 25 yards.
Hebburn forced another corner which Jack Donaghy put over the top, and they levelled on 73 minutes when Liam Murray picked the ball up on the right, moved inside, and curled a left foot shot into the bottom left corner.
Quakers made their second sub on 78 minutes, Dylan Stephenson coming on for Stanton.
They nearly won the game on 88 minutes when Stephenson forced a good save out of Cameron, who recovered quickly to block the follow up from Hazel.
And right at the end, Cameron made a good one-handed save from Hedley after he had been set up by Beck
