Late goal gives Hereford the points

Quakers miss some good chances

Hereford 1 Darlington 0

Stanley  89 1-0

A late goal by Hereford sub Connor Stanley gave Hereford the points at Edgar Street.

It looked as if Quakers were the more likely to win the game in the second half, as they created and missed some good chances, with Jacob Hazel firing narrowly wide, and then having another one cleared off the line. Cameron Salkeld also missed a good chance.

But the Bulls won a late penalty which Taylor saved -- his first penalty save for the club -- but the home side scored from their next attack.

Hereford started with a burst up the left by Obinna, which was stopped by Tom Platt.

A good ball by Platt was helped on by Hazel for Salkeld, who was caught offside.

Tommy Taylor had to dash off his line on 8 minutes to hold on to a low cross by Cowley, then Jake Lawlor made a good interception from a right wing cross.

Quakers gained a free kick almost next to the corner flag on 13 minutes. The ball was curled in by Liddle, only for keeper Pond to hold on to the ball.

Quakers got a corner on the left on 15 minutes. It was curled in by Salkeld and punched away by Pond.

There was a chance to Hereford on 17 minutes when Quakers lost possession and Cowley ran through, but Taylor comfortably saved his effort

Hereford won a free kick on 20 minutes about 30 yards out, but Lawlor headed the ball away.

There was a chance to Quakers on 21 minutes. Kaine Felix got away down the right, pulled the ball back, and Hazel and Salkeld just failed to get a touch in front of goal.

Quakers had an escape on 26 minutes when they lost the ball on the edge of their own box, Cowley set up Rooney, who slipped and allowed Quakers to regain possession

Taylor was called into action on 32 minutes, pushing a long range effort by Adam Livingstone around the post.

The keeper then held a chip from the right by Alex Babos under his crossbar.

Obinna then nearly slipped away in the box, but a challenge by Griffiths managed to put him off.

Hereford nearly took the lead on 42 minutes when the ball came in from the right for Cowley to head towards goal, and Taylor dived to his right and saved one-handed

Half time 0-0

Straight from the restart, Hereford nearly scored, when Obinna burst into the box on the left, and hit the post with a left foot shot. In their next attack, Hereford won a corner that Cameron headed over the top.

There was a chance to Quakers on 55 minutes, Hazel and Salkeld combined well on the left, Salkeld pulled the ball back for Hazel, whose effort from twelve yards out was deflected wide of the right hand post.

Quakers had the ball in the net through Salkeld on 58 minutes, but Hazel was pulled up for handball, although the ball seemed to hit the top of his arm.

Andrew Nelson came on for Moke on 62 minutes.

Quakers had a great chance on 64 minutes when Jordan Mustoe sent Nelson away up the left, he pulled the ball back into the middle where Salkeld’s shot was charged down by the keeper.

They had another opportunity on 72 minutes when Nelson rode two challenges and found Griffiths, who drove a left foot shot over the top.

And another chance came on 77 minutes when Liddle’s corner was cleared as far as Jake Lawlor, who fired over the bar.

Quakers went their closest yet on 81 minutes when Salkeld crossed from the left, Felix nodded the ball down, and Hazel, who was slightly off balance, had a left foot effort scrambled off the line.

It looked at that point as if Quakers were the more likely to score, but it was Hereford who broke through in the dying minutes of the 90.

Sukar lost possession and then was penalised for a foul in the area. Taylor saved Rooney’s penalty -- his first stop for the club -- but Stanley regained possession, and curled the ball, with the help of a deflection, past the stranded Taylor.

Quakers had a chance in stoppage time, but Felix scuffed his effort wide from a Salkeld cross.
