Two penalties by Cedric Main gave Quakers their first in three matches to keep them well in touch with the play of places.
Main gave Quakers the lead from the spot in the first half, and he grabbed another spot kick in the second half after Elliot Forbes had put Quakers back in front.
Quakers showed for the first time on 6 minutes when the ball was moved from right to left for Jarrett Rivers to run at his full back on the left, but he put his cross behind.
Quakers went close on 9 minutes. Will Flint found Matty Cornish, who played a first time ball through Cedric Main, who ran into the area and fired into the side netting.
There was another good move when Cornish got down the right and pulled the ball back into the middle where Main couldn’t quite connect on to the ball.
But Marine missed a great chance on 14 minutes when they got round the back of the Darlington defence, and Jack Hazlehurst scuffed a weak shot at Peter Jameson from six yards
Quakers missed their best chance yet on 24 minutes when Main spun away from his marker, got past another defender and ran into the area, where his left foot shot was saved by Metcalfe.
Quakers got a penalty on 27 minutes when Main cleverly sent Rivers away, and when he went down under a challenge in the box, the ref awarded a penalty. Cedric Main sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
They went searching for a second and put a good spell of pressure together, without troubling Metcalfe, until the 39th minute when Flint found Rivers on the edge of the box, and his left foot shot was fumbled by Metcalfe and cleared before Hatfield could reach the ball.
Then Cornish tried from the left, and Metcalfe just managed to fingertip the ball around the post.
But just on half time, a free kick came in from the right which Doyle headed towards goal, Jameson managed to parry the ball into the air, but Doyle was on hand to nod the ball home.
Half time:

Quakers themselves were awarded a free kick for a foul on Hatfield just outside the area. Hatfield curled the ball over the wall, but Metcalfe saved.
Quakers forced two corners in the space of a minute at the start of the second half, the second of which finally ended with a right foot shot by Cornish that Metcalfe pushed around the spot.
Then Scott Barrow tried his luck from 30 yards, but the ball went wide.
Marine responded with a free kick by Hazlehurst which went just wide.

Quakers regained the lead on 59 minutes. Hedley was fouled on the right, Barrow curled the ball into the area, where Forbes firmly headed past Metcalfe for his third goal of the season.
Quakers made their first sub on 65 minutes, Hazeem Bakre coming on for Rivers
They went looking for a third, and Barrow made a good run up the left and crossed for Platt to head over.
Then Bakre won the ball and set up Hatfield, who put his effort over the top.
Hatfield then played a good 1-2 to get into the area, and even though his low shot beat Metcalfe, a defender cleared off the line.
Some good play by Flint on the right released Hedley, who crossed to the far post where Cornish headed wide.
Then a great run by Barrow down the left took him into the box where he set up Main, who fired over.
Hedley then played Bakre into the area, but his effort was saved by Metcalfe at the foot of the post.
Quakers won another penalty on 79 minutes when Main ran into the area and was pushed to the ground, by Wardle, and once again he tucked the penalty away confidently and give Quakers breathing space.
Hatfield had a left foot shot on the turn deflected wide, and Bakre had a shot blocked
Quakers controlled the game after that to earn themselves a well-deserved victory.
