Darlington Women bounce back with win against Gateshead Leam

Third league win this season

Darlington Women recovered from their FA Cup defeat when they beat Gateshead Leam Rangers in the Durham County FA Women's League on Sunday.

The victory means that they have taken 9 points from the first 12 available.

A nervy first 20 minutes, saw both teams have chances but neither able to convert with both goalkeepers making good saves and keeping the scores level.

The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute with a touch of class from captain for the day, Chloe Ryan. She picked up the ball in the attacking third, and with a couple touches out of her feet to set herself, she unleashed a great strike into the top corner to give Darlo the lead. Ryan then turned provider only minutes later with a great through ball for Hattie Raine to run onto and calmly finish for a 2-0 lead.

Leam Rangers came out the faster of the two teams in the second half with more intent. They pushed players further forward and it paid off only a few minutes into the second half with Stella Bell getting one back for Leam with a great finish. It was only a couple of minutes later when Darlington restored their 2 goal advantage with half time substitute, Nicole Graham relentless with the press, closing the goalkeeper down, before composing herself and lifting the ball over the keeper and the defender into an empty net for 3-1 Darlington.

On the 64th minute, the 4th goal seemed to kill the game off and it was another well worked goal with Hattie Raine rounding the keeper to slot home with her left for her second of the game. Darlington saw the game out well for the remainder of time which saw new signing Lily Wilkinson make a brief debut in the last ten minutes. Player of the match today went to Lily Large (sponsored by Arthur Wharton Foundation) who was solid at the back throughout the full 90.

Thank you for your support this afternoon and thanks to Leam Rangers Women and Girls Football.
