Darlington Women into League Cup final

Darlington Women into League Cup final

Great win over Hebburn

Darlington Women are into their first ever League Cup final after beating Hebburn 6-2 at the new Eastbourne Community Stadium.

They also set up a possible promotion and cup double, which would be a fantastic achievement for the season. The final is to be played at the Ford Hub Stadium in Sunderland on Sunday 19th May, kick off 1.30pm, against Birtley Town.

It was a great start for Darlington, going 1-0 up through Sara Waites, her 10th goal of the season in all competitions and the third player this season to hit double figures. Darlington were soon 2-0 up when Chloe Ryan hit the back of the net, Hattie Raine providing assists for the opening two goals.

Chloe Ryan’s first goal marked two massive achievements. The first being Chloe’s 50th goal for the club becoming only the second Quaker Woman to score 50 goals. The second being Darlington’s 100th goal of the season in all competitions. What an achievement to score 100 goals in one season.

Hebburn then pulled one back with a mistake at the back to make it 2-1. However, Hattie is never satisfied with just assists and got on the scoresheet herself to regain the two goal advantage and make it 3-1. A further two goals were added before half time, Chloe Ryan and Hattie Raine again on the scoresheet to score a brace a piece to make it 5-1 at the break.

Hebburn pulled a goal back in the second half after some forced changes for Darlington. However, they managed the game well and added a 6th when Chloe Ryan completed her hat-trick on the 76th minute.

Player of the match went to Sara Waites (sponsored by Teesside University) for a real captain’s performance, leading the team to victory.

We would like to thank everyone who attended for their support and hope to see you at Eastbourne Community Stadium next season. We hope you all enjoyed the luxury of a seat!

Thanks to all the sponsors and thanks to Hebburn Town F.C Women for the game.
