New signing in squad today
Darlington FC Women are delighted to officially announce the signing of Leanne Mulligan.
Leanne played for the first established girls team at Norton and Stockton Ancients FC during her youth and signed for MFC centre of excellence.
Leanne continued to play for Norton into senior womens football till she left home to study at Huddersfield University where she had a short spell at Huddersfield Town. On return from University, she continued to play for Norton until she was unfortunate enough to slip a disc in her back which brought an end to playing football.
Leanne then made a return this season at Stockton Town and only played a couple of games for them before the team folded.
Leanne said; "I’m looking forward to getting back into football as it’s a passion I haven’t been able to let go of since I stopped and it’s why I ended up pursuing a career in sport." Leanne is currently a PE teacher for her day job.
Manager Shaun Mackenzie said; "I am delighted to bring Leanne to the club, she brings some more experience to the team and I feel she will be a great asset once fully match fit. I see Leanne as a holding midfielder who can distribute the ball well and has good defensive attributes so can also play at centre back. She looks after the ball well and always looks to keep possession which will fit into the way we want to play, welcome Leanne."
