Match Preview

The Quakers look to keep the good times rolling this pre-season as they travel up to the UTS Stadium to take on Dunston for the penultimate pre-season game on Tuesday night.

Darlo come into this game after a 3-1 win against National League team Altrincham last Saturday, when an early goal from Will Hatfield and two second-half goals from Cedric Main and Elliot Forbes helped keep up the unbeaten pre-season streak.

Darlington’s opponents, Dunston, are in the Northern Premier League Division One East -- the same league as Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe -- and will be a tough test for Quakers.

The Fed had a strong season last year, finishing second in their league, but were unfortunate to miss out on promotion after losing on penalties in the play-offs.

So far this pre-season, Dunston have played four games, winning one of them, but they come into this game after a narrow 1-0 defeat against our final pre-season opponents, Gateshead.

The two teams met last pre-season, when Dunston walked away 2-1 winners on the day, when former Dunston man Jack Maskell was the only Darlo player to get on the scoresheet that game.

? Player Spotlight

The Dunston midfield has Darlo fan favourite Phil Turnbull in their arsenal. Turnbull played 116 games for the Quakers, with his only goal coming in a 2-0 victory against Gloucester City in 2017. He joined Dunston in 2021 and has been a midfield stalwart for them ever since.

JJ O’Donnell has been a key figure recently for Dunston as they finished second in the NPL East division and narrowly missed out on promotion after he joined the club in October 2024
