Stanton extends stay with Darlo

Darlington are delighted to confirm that Ellis Stanton has signed a new one-year deal with an option for an extra year, subject to FA and National League approval.

He spoke to Stuart Armstrong about his new contract.

Ellis, 21, joined the Quakers last season after being released from Newcastle United, where he spent 12 years in the academy, and was capped by England Under-15s. He made 34 appearances last season and will be looking to build on a good first season.

The promising midfielder had to wait for his chance in the starting eleven, but after an injury to Will McGowan, Stanton took the opportunity with both hands and performed to a high level, picking up eight assists across the season.

Manager Steve Watson spoke on his excitement to have Ellis signed on: "Delighted to get Ellis over the line. He had a very good spell in the middle of last season before he got his injury. He was pivotal to probably our best performance last season against Spennymoor. He was probably the best player on the pitch. He's a very good age, he's very creative, and he certainly improved as the season went on. He is going to be a very important player for us going forward."

The club are ecstatic to have Ellis back for the upcoming season, and we can't wait to see more great performances in a black-and-white shirt.
