Evo-Stik Round Up- Week 17
Here's Simon's weekly league round-up For the second week in a row Darlington were not in action due to a postponement. Our trip to New Mills was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Live on BT sport last Sunday Warrington Town’s fantastic run in the FA Cup came to an end. An early goal from Matty Pattison and another in injury time from Danny Wright was enough for the Heed to progress with a 2-0 victory.
In the league we lost our top spot with Northwich Victoria taking full advantage of other games being called off. They won 1-0 at home to Brighouse Town to send themselves top of the league by a point. Michael Clarke scored the only goal of the game mid-way through the first half.
Droylsden’s recent struggles continued, as they missed the chance to go top of the table themselves, when they suffered a surprise defeat at Radcliffe Borough. Elliot Rokka gave the hosts the lead before Ciaran Kilheeney levelled for Drolysden. Goals from Chris Mason, Sam Cook and Rokka saw Radcliffe race into a 4-1 lead with just twenty minutes to go. The Bloods made it 4-3 when Kilheeney got his second and Adam Morning also scored. However, Bevan Bury made sure there was to be no comeback as he completed the scoring in stoppage time, with Radcliffe winning 5-3.
Scarborough Athletic moved up to sixth with victory at home to Kendal Town. The visitors took the lead in the eighth minute through Jordan Connerton, but the Seadogs quickly levelled thanks to Ryan Blott. Dean Lisles scored the winner for Scarborough early in the second half, as they won the game 2-1. They are now just two points outside the playoff places.
Harrogate RA continued their march up the table with victory at Lancaster City. Adam Barker scored the only goal of the game for Harrogate after 14 minutes.
Spennymoor Town moved up to ninth in the league with a comfortable victory at home to Brighouse Town on Tuesday night. Brighouse led at the break when Thomas Matthews opened the scoring in the 13th minute. However, four goals in less than twenty minutes turned the game in the host’s favour. Kallum Griffiths levelled, with star man Gavin Cogden giving Spennymoor the lead. Two further goals from ex Darlington striker Nathan Fisher sealed the points for the Brewers. Spennymoor still have games in hand on all the sides above them having only played 16 league games so far.
Burscough moved into 12th place with victory away to Ossett Albion. Liam Caddick gave Burscough the lead, before Adam Muller levelled for Albion. Two goals in three minutes won the game the visitors, Jordan Williams and William Jones the scorers, as Burscough were victors 3-1.
The final game of the week saw third bottom Prescot Cables thrash bottom of the table Padiham. Mason Rye and Robert Doran gave Prescot a 2-0 lead at the break. Veteran Brett Ormerod pulled one back for Padiham, before three late goals gave Prescot a 5-1 victory. Jack Phillips, an own goal from Dean Overson and Andrew Griffiths securing the victory.
If the weather allows it, we travel to Bamber Bridge at the weekend, league leaders Northwich Victoria travel to Radcliffe Borough while Salford City host bottom of the table Padiham.
