EvoStik Round Up - Week 24
Here's Simon Hahn's weekly round up. Darlington fell to only their third league defeat of the season on Saturday in the top of the table clash with Salford City. Goals from Daniel Webber and Sam Madeley sealed a 2-0 victory for the Ammies.
We finished the game with nine men after Alan White and Adam Mitchell were both sent off along with manager Martin Gray. The win saw Salford return to the top of the table, six points ahead of the Quakers, however we do have five games in hand.
Many games fell victim to the weather, including that of second place Northwich Victoria away to Ossett Town.
Scarborough Athletic moved up to fourth place with a victory away to Burscough, 3-2. The Seadogs were two up inside half an hour thanks to goals from Thomas Corner and Matthew Plummer, before Paul Williams scored for Burscough. James Ghaichem restored Scarborough’s two goal lead just minutes later, as they went in 3-1 up at the break. Nicholas Ryan pulled a goal back for Burscough in the second half, however they were unable to score an equaliser.
Bamber Bridge were the only other side in the top ten to play and they took full advantage to boost their playoff chances as they moved up ninth. They ran out 3-1 winners against bottom of the table Padiham. Paul McKenna gave Bamber an early lead, however Padiham levelled through Bobby Langford. Bamber scored further goals from Alistair Waddecar and Andrew Bell to pick up the three points.
Clitheroe remain in the top half of the league table, despite being held at home by Ossett Albion. Albion took the lead through Connor Bower, however Jason Hart levelled in the second half from the penalty spot as the game finished 1-1.
Lancaster City were comfortable winners at home to second bottom New Mills. Aaron Taylor scored twice, along with goals from Reece Pearce and Matthew Poole as Lancaster ran out 4-0 winners.
Radcliffe Borough picked up a big victory in their fight against relegation, as they defeated Kendal Town 3-1. Sam Fitzgerald opened the scoring for Radcliffe with Reece Fishwick levelling for Kendal before half-time. Sam Cook regained the lead for Radcliffe, before the win was sealed in stoppage time by Ashford Blake.
We look to return to winning ways as we host Ossett Town on Saturday, with promotion rivals Northwich Victoria hosting Lancaster City and Salford City travelling to Prescot Cables.
