Darlington manager Martin Gray said that there were some very good performances in the 1-1 friendly draw against York City at Heritage Park on Monday night.

Quakers led midway through the second half with a header by Gary Brown who came on as a sub striker, but the goal was cancelled out by the mystery “Triallist B” of York.

“I was really pleased with the performance,” said Gray. “There were some very good encouraging displays by several individuals.

“The fitness levels also looked very good, the players kept the tempo going all the way through the game. York are full time, and we made things difficult for them. If we had been a bit more clinical up front in the first half then we could have had a couple of goals.”

Meanwhile, Gray isn’t showing any flexibility regarding the possible outgoing transfer of Gary Brown.

There are at least two Northern League clubs who are considering the recruitment of the club skipper, but Gray said; “Gary won’t be going anywhere, simple as that, until that money is exactly what I want. We’re in no rush to get rid of him. I won’t say what that price is, but until that price is met he will stay with us because he has got a two year contract.”

Quakers’ next friendly is against Whitby at the Turnbull Ground on Saturday
