Her Game Too matchday: Quakers are praised by the national campaign team

Brackley game was a big success

Our men’s home game against Brackley Town earlier this season was dedicated to the national ‘Her Game Too’ campaign and organisers have praised the club for what we did on the day and our ongoing commitment to the campaign.

DFC’s ‘Her Game Too’ team led by Ambassador, Joanne Cameron, organised a series of activities to mark the day:

  • Our girls and women’s teams were invited to the game
  • Our men’s team wore ‘Her Game Too’ warm-up t-shirts before the game
  • Our female youth team members joined the guard of honour, bearing ‘Her Game Too’ flags
  • We had a ‘Her Game Too’ selfie board – and captured lots of pictures of DFC players, staff and supporters showing their support
  • An all-female playlist of music played over the Blackwell Meadows PA, with tracks chosen by DFC’s Her Game Too team and our fans
  • Two female supporters announced the teams
  • Her Game Too colouring-in sheets available for children

Thanks go to John Tempest of Tempest Jones for his continued support and sponsorship of the warm-up t-shirts and selfie board.

In the days following the match day, feedback was received from the national ‘Her Game Too’ team:

“On behalf of everyone at Her Game Too, we want to send a huge THANK YOU for your support in hosting a dedicated ‘Her Game Too’ fixture this season. Your commitment to promoting inclusivity and tackling sexism in sport is making a meaningful difference to everyone in the football community.

“By dedicating a match to our campaign, you have not only helped raise awareness but have also taken an active role in ensuring that women and girls feel welcome, valued, and respected in football.

“Thank you for standing with us and for being a vital part of this movement! In partnership, we are leaving a legacy of positive change”.

DFC Player advocate Scott Barrow said, "On behalf of the club, we are extremely proud of the work we do with Her Game Too.

"It's so important to spread awareness of the campaign, to stop sexism in both football and society. We want everyone who attends a Darlington FC game to feel safe and welcome. What the players do on the pitch, might inspire a future female player at Darlington.

"The Club have worked with Her Game Too for couple of years, to ensure all girls and women, no matter their age, can feel confident and safe sharing their opinion about football both in stadiums and online without fear of abuse. Having the partnership with #HerGameToo ensures that Darlington remains committed to addressing the needs of its female players, fans, and staff and raises the profile of some of the challenges girls and women still face today, any abuse is not tolerated, and we urge anyone to report it where possible. Will Hatfield and I are very proud to be advocates of Her Game Too."

Founded in May 2021, Her Game Too is a passionate movement dedicated to tackling sexism and promoting gender equality within the world of sport. Recognising the pervasive challenges faced by women and girls in sport, Her Game Too strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of gender, can enjoy and participate in sports without fear of discrimination or harassment.
