Quakers beaten by a goal in each half.

Plenty of missed chances

Peterborough Sports 2 Darlington 0

Goals: Gallagher 35 mins, 1-0, Meyer 55 mins, 2-0

Quakers are still bottom of the table after losing at Lincoln Road.

However, they missed some good chances in the first half when they were well on top, and were caught by a breakaway just before half time.

Sports then added their second just after the break, and towards the end of the game Quakers had more chances, but they went begging.

Sports keeper Peter Crook gave Quakers an early half chance when he gave the ball straight to Jacob Hazel on the edge of the area, but the striker was tackled and lost possession.

Cameron Salkeld made a good run up the left on 9 minutes, but he was tackled as he was about to cross and the ball went out for a goal kick.

Jonny Ngandu picked up a loose clearance and tried to thread the ball through for Hatfield, but his pass was intercepted.

When Sports attacked meaningfully for the first time on 17 minutes, Kieran Burton headed the ball away at the near post.

Quakers patiently created a chance on 21 minutes when Kallum Griffiths, Hayden Lindley and Salkeld were all involved before Salkeld squared the ball for Will Hatfield to pull a left foot shot wide.

Quakers won their first corner on 22 minutes, but the ball was headed away. Eventually, a chance fell to Lindley, whose low right foot shot was saved by Crook.

Quakers had another chance on 27 minutes when Tom Platt crossed from the left for Burton to glance wide from six yards out.

Quakers had a great chance on 29 minutes when Hatfield found the overlapping Griffiths in the box, presenting him with a 1 on 1, but his effort was blocked by Crook.

After a tackle on Griffiths which led to a flare up and two Darlington players being booked for their protests about the challenge, Ngandu's free kick was held by Crook.

Sports took the lead against the run of play on 35 minutes when the ball was played out to the right to Sembie-Ferris, who crossed to the far post where Oisin Gallagher sidefooted in with the help of a big deflection.

Salkeld had a penalty shout when he charged into the box and seemed to be pushed, but the referee waved play on

Half time 1-0

Sports won a corner on 50 minutes which Platt headed away.

Quakers went further behind on 55 minutes when Cuba Meyer picked the ball up on the left after Quakers lost possession, raced into the Darlington area, and beat Taylor with a low shot.

They made two subs on on 60 minutes, Blain Rowe and Andrew Nelson coming on for Ben Hedley and Jonny Ngandu.

Rowe became Quakers’ third booking for a foul.

Quakers had a chance when Hatfield broke on the edge of the box and was challenged and the ball ran for Nelson whose right foot shot was saved by Crook.

Griffiths crossed deep from the right to the far post, where Nelson fired across the face of goal.

Quakers made their third sub on 77 minutes with Hatfield, who had twice received treatment, being replaced by Rivers.

A good run by Salkeld set up Rowe inside the box, but Johnson just got the ball out for a corner just a few yards out, then Rivers crossed from the right for Salkeld to have a header blocked.

Rowe then had a 25 yarder pushed around the post by Crook as Quakers kept the pressure going.

Full time 2-0.
