Join the March for Men-tal Health!

Raising awareness of mental health issues

We've received the following from Man-Health, which is planning to walk around 17 football grounds in the north east over the Easter weekend. They want as many people as possible to accompany them along the way in memory of our former Academy player, Harvey McWilliams. For more details, read on:

Too many of our men are dying too young

  • Just over three out of four suicides (76%) are by men and suicide is the biggest cause of death for men under 35 (Reference: ONS)
  • The North East had the highest suicide rate in England and Wales during 2020
  • 13 men a day take their own lives
  • 12.5% of men in the UK are suffering from one of the common mental health disorders
  • Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50.

From April 13 to April 18 2022 a team of men from ManHealth are walking over 130 miles in 5 Days to raise awareness of Men’s Mental Health in the North East. The men who all struggle with mental health conditions have benefitted from using the peer support groups and other services of ManHealth and are looking to raise awareness of the crisis in men’s mental health.

We are planning to visit over 17 Football Club Grounds as part of our route, and are looking for the Supporters Groups and Club Foundations to join us with publicising the event in their areas.

Please find the Clubs and Dates we plan to be visit below.

We hope to encourage as many people as possible to join us as we walk in their town/area to start conversations about the lack of support in mental health.

We really hope you will assist us with this amazing challenge. If you could help us promote our walk via your social media channels or encourage your fans or players to participate on the day that would be great.
